A lot of attention is placed on THC (Tetrahydrocannabidiol) in cannabis since it is the one cannabinoid that produces a psychoactive effect on the brain, which produces the “high” that is often associated with cannabis. But, attention is starting to shift instead to CBD (Cannabidiol) which doesn’t have any psychoactive effect on the brain, but it has numerous medicinal benefits to the user.
How does CBD work?
CBD is able to produce its effect by interacting with the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS). To prevent cannabis from interacting with the psychoactive capabilities of the brain, it is important to choose a strain that has a high concentration of CBD and a low concentration of THC. These types of strains are fantastic for reducing inflammation, and are also able to help reduce pain and anxiety.
Research tends to suggest that THC and CBD can enhance each other’s effect on the human body, in what is known as the “entourage effect”. It is thought that in the next decade, more strains will be developed with the exact concentration of THC and CBD to combat a particular ailment.
What Strains Exhibit Anti-Inflammatory Properties?
Here are the strains that we recommend that have the appropriate concentration of CBD to treat inflammation.
This strain is a hybrid of an Indica and a Sativa originating from the MK Ultra and G13 Haze strains. A typical CBD concentration is between 17 and 23%, with an accompanying THC concentration of around 14%. Cannatonic is known to be an excellent anti-inflammatory, and can alleviate feelings of depression, anxiety, and even migraine pain. Most people enjoy the earthy flavour of Cannatonic.
AC/DC is a Sativa dominant strain that originates from Cannatonic. A CBD concentration of between 16 and 24% is to be expected with this strain, with a very low THC concentration of 1%. AC/DC can reduce inflammation, but is also useful in the reduction of feelings of nausea and reduce the occurrence of seizures. In terms of flavors, you can expect a citrusy sweet taste, which can be quite satisfying.
Great White Shark AKA Peacemaker
The Great White Shark is a Sativa dominant strain, which has a Sativa:Indica ratio of approximately 80:20. In terms of CBD concentrations, you can expect a concentration of approximately 25%, with a slightly lower THC concentration of 15%. When people use the Great White Shark strain, they tend to have feelings of euphoria, and feelings of relaxation. These are great benefits which accompany the anti-inflammatory properties well. In terms of flavor, it can be quite an acquired taste.
Lastly, we have Avi-Dekel, which is a hybrid with an Indica dominance. This strain has no THC at all, so there will be no psychoactive effects exhibited by Avi-Dekel. The CBD concentration of 15-16% is to be expected. Users report that they feel energized after using the strain, which can be useful when you are wanting to reduce the feelings of pain and inflammation.
